PGA Golf Professional
Welcome to a Better Golf Game!
As a Class A PGA Professional with more than 20 years of teaching experience, Mike Erwin is one of the most respected golf instructors in Illinois. He combines cutting-edge technology with an emphasis on fundamentals to help students reach their maximum potential.
I wanted to thank you for the lesson last Monday, right after our lesson, I shot 37. I am feeling comfortable over the ball again and you helped me to understand the correct positions to be in, clearing my head of all the things I’ve been told and read.
I wanted to thank you for helping me with my game. I went from shooting in the mid to high 60's to the low fifties in less than two months.
From 2002-05 Mike served as General Manager of Highland Park Country Club, followed by a stint in the same position at Bittersweet Golf Club (Gurnee, Ill.) from 2005-09. His many responsibilities in these roles included supervising food-and-beverage operations, course maintenance and marketing.
As his career has advanced, so has Mike’s knowledge of the golf swing and technology. He’s attended numerous seminars with acclaimed professionals and assisted great instructors such as Paul Runyan. Mike has also worked alongside legends Jim Flick and Jack Nicklaus at their renowned golf schools.
Mike boasts impressive credentials when it comes to modern teaching methods. A big believer in the power of video, he’s certified in K-VEST, golf’s leading 3D improvement system, and V1 golf coaching software. Mike is also a proponent of golf-specific exercise and strength, holding certifications by the Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) as a Golf Instructor for adults and juniors.
Mike’s Teaching Philosophy
Solid contact is the essence of golf, and it’s determined by three components: Grip, posture, and impact position.
Developing and maintaining these basics may seem simple, but even the game’s top players constantly check their grip, posture and impact position with the aid of video equipment. I use the same technology to instill these fundamentals into each student’s game, then provide them with the finished video -- a valuable tool to monitor progress and make adjustments when needed.
Mike’s golf career began in the 1980s, when he earned his stripes as an intern at highly regarded clubs from Arizona to Florida, and graduated with a degree in Professional Golf Management and Marketing from Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Mich.
From 1991-93 Mike was Assistant Golf Professional at prestigious Onwentsia Country Club (Lake Forest, Ill.), where he learned under Illinois PGA Hall of Fame inductee Hubby Habjan. In 1993, Mike became Head Golf Professional at Sportsman Country Club (Northbrook, Ill.), managing all aspects of the award-winning club’s golf operations while developing successful leagues, clinics and junior programs.
